LYS I MØRKET

EXPERIENCE TWO INSTALLATIONS DURING CPH LIGHT FESTIVAL

Den Grønlandske Handels Plads is once again transformed into a universe of light with two unique installations celebrating the North Atlantic. For those of us based in such a historic location, it is a great pleasure to create a space where we can share stories from the North Atlantic in new ways.

The installations are presented in collaboration with Arktisk Institut and Nordatlantens Brygge, and can be experienced from 31 January to 22 February.

INSTALLATION 1

DIGITAL NORTHERN LIGHTS

By Show Production

As darkness falls, projectors will create a digital interpretation of the Northern Lights – a phenomenon that typically appears in the Arctic night but is brought to life here in the city's hustle and bustle.

Step into the light, where nature and technology unite.

INSTALLATION 2

ARCTIC FAUNA

In collaboration with the Danish Arctic Institute & the North Atlantic House

In Greenland, there are polar bears. And seals and whales. And sled dogs. But there are also many other animals. Insects and birds in the air and on the ground. Sharks, fish, and small creatures in the deep, icy sea. Large populations of musk oxen and reindeer, which were once moved across the country and which today thrive on the vast, open plains beyond the ice.

For a Danish audience, many of these animals have received little attention, but the zoologist Christian Vibe (1913–1998) believed that all animals were important to document. In the 1960s, Vibe was also deeply interested in how animals and humans were connected to climate fluctuations.

Look up and experience carefully selected photographs from Vibe’s extensive collection, illuminating Nordatlantens Brygge.

DANISH ARCTIC INSTITUTE

The light installation Arctic Fauna is created in collaboration with the Danish Arctic Institute – an archive of photos, art, and documents about Greenland and the Arctic.

Founded in 1954, the institute is funded by the Danish Agency for Education and Research, as well as private foundations.

The world's largest photo collection can be viewed online at arktiskebilleder.dk, and the institute also offers physical archives with letters and diaries. During the summer, the changing exhibitions are free to visit.

The institute is located at the Arctic House, Strandgade 102, alongside the Polar Library, University of Copenhagen, and several private businesses.

Opening Hours

You can experience the light installations every day from 17.00 - 22.00, from January 30 to February 22, 2026.

We look forward to taking you on a journey through light and history.
